Even in chloride and sulfide environments, duplex stainless steels show very high resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Duplex stainless steel work hardening alloy. Their micro-structure consists of austenitic phase and ferritic phase. Therefore, duplex stainless steel shows the characteristics of austenitic and ferritic stainless steel. This combination of properties may mean some compromise compared to pure austenite and pure ferrite.
