Product Discription:

316Ti (UNS S31635) is a titanium-stabilized version of 316 molybdenum-containing austenitic stainless steel. Compared to traditional chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels such as 304, 316 alloys are more resistant to total corrosion and pitting/crevice corrosion.

They also provide higher creep, stress fracture and tensile strength at high temperatures. High-carbon alloy 316 stainless steel is susceptible to grain boundary chromium carbide formation at temperatures of approximately 900 to 1500°F (425 to 815°C), resulting in intergranular corrosion.

Anti-sensitization was achieved in the alloy 316Ti, and titanium was added to stabilize the structure and prevent chromium carbide precipitation, which is the source of sensitization. This stability is achieved through a medium temperature thermal treatment, during which titanium reacts with carbon to form titanium carbide.

This significantly reduces the sensitivity to sensitization in use by limiting the formation of chromium carbide. As a result, the alloy can be used for a long time at high temperatures without affecting its corrosion resistance. 316Ti has the same resistance to sensitized corrosion as the low-carbon version 316L.

 
 
The characteristics of 316Ti:

For higher-carbon austenitic stainless steels, titanium can be added as a stabilizing element to decrease the formation of chromium carbides. As a result, it improves the resistance to aqueous corrosion in the welding sections which can happen to stainless steel grades of higher carbon content.
