The 679-meter-high building becomes the second tallest skyscraper in the world when topped out. The architectural design of the building and the name itself symbolize the independence of Malaysia. Merdeka means "independence" and the building is modeled after the figure of Malaysia's first Prime Minister, Tengku Abdul Rahman, when he declared the country's independence. Malaysia became an independent country from the British in 1957, and the building is of great cultural significance to the Malaysian people.
Merdeka 118 is second only to the Burj Kha lifa in Dubai as the tallest building in the world, and naturally, the name alludes to the amazing 118 floors contained in Merdeka's towering height. This build will be fully completed in 2023 and will be a sight that tourists and others travelling through Southeast Asia will want to see for years to come.
